Hey there! so while scrolling twitter the other day i saw that the lovely Nicole from northern Irish girl online had done the shuffle song tag. I had a read and i loved it! basically you put your spotify playlist on shuffle and then put them up regardless! i tweeted Nicole how much i liked it and she tagged me, so here it is! Now mine turned into a bit of a game, because i started doing mine but all i was getting was songs from Hamilton, which while i love that soundtrack it isnt all i listen too. So i skipped one or two but my friend said i was cheating so i sent him my playlist so he could do it for me! we did have to work through some Hamilton, but it was a lot of fun turning it into a game.
Im honestly a little sad that some songs didnt come up, for example i love the soundtrack from the greatest showman, six, but i also love five finger death punch and stars in stereo that didnt pop up! i have a wide taste, though as you will see its mainly musicals and rock/alternative music.
1. Here without you – Jay smith
Ohhh jay smith, one of my friends who is swedish got me into jay smith, he originally won the Swedish version of Pop idol in 2010 and he did a cover of this song on there too. Hes got a really gritty, soulful voice, he also is rather hot that helps a fair amount!
2. Aaron burr sir – Hamilton
I am (as you will see) a rather big fan of musical soundtracks, and this was actually the soundtrack that started it. Hamilton is a musical based on the life of Alexander Hamilton, one of the founding fathers of america. This is an amazing soundtrack, very different to your classic musical soundtracks.
3. My dead gay son – Heathers
I had a right old laugh when this popped up! This is also a musical soundtrack, from the musical Heathers, Heathers is based on a movie from 1989 of the same name, you join veronica sawyer starting her senior year of high school, her high school is your classic, the nerds, the goths, the jocks and the popular girls – the Heathers. You can hear that this song is outdated, but it is very progressive too because it is about excepting people for who they are.
4. The me inside of me – Heathers
Another Heathers song! this song without spoiling is from the main popular girl, Heather chandlers point of view, well sort of. Its hard to explain without completely spoiling but it is brilliant, if you like dark humour with a number of messages i highly suggest Heathers!
5. Stars – Sixx: A.M.
You will see a theme, but a friend got me into this band and im so glad she did! they have a lot of songs about self esteem and excepting who you are, some of there songs are truly beautiful. Stars is described by the band as a classic Sixx:A.M song and it really is, its a beautiful classic song in my eyes at least talking about just being alone with someone and taking it in.
6. Who taught you how to hate – Disturbed
I really love Disturbed, again my friends got me into them! and im glad they did, they were the first band i listened to that was a bit rockier and i adore it. Who taught you how to hate, was written after disturbed came back from a hiatus, David Draiman the main singer (who is amazing) and his wife had just had a son. And this song was inspired by how children are not born with hatred, they are pure and non-judgemental and they learn hatred. Its a very important topic they hit so well here.
7. Fall in line – Christina Aguilera & Demi Lovato
Yes! Oh so happy this came up, Fall in line came out earlier this year and its so good. Its talking about the way women have been made to do things, to “fall in line” for so long, and how it shouldnt be that way anymore.
Little girls, listen closely
Cause no one told me
But you deserve to know
That in this world, you are not beholden
You do not owe them
Your body and your soul
Says it all right?
8. Mz Hyde – Halestorm
I do love a bit of Halestorm! Halestorm is a brilliant band, and its a rock band with a female lead with you dont see too often! there songs can be pretty racy, but honestly i find that kind of empowering? Mz Hyde is about being a completely different person in bed than during the day basically!
9. I get off – Halestorm
Oh look, another Halestorm song! and its racy again, good grief. This song, being blunt is about getting off on being watched. (those moments when your glad your family doesn’t read your blog).
10. Immortal – Disturbed
And finishing with another disturbed song, nice! Immortalised is basically a very empowering song, they say its meant to make you feel powerful and able to take on anything, and it does its very empowering and you feel like you could take on the world.
And there we have it, i hope you enjoyed! it really does show my tastes pretty well, empowering rocky songs and musicals! Im not gonna tag anyone out right, but please if you want to do feel free to do so!
