Fat Isnt A Bad Word.

Hey, so today’s post is a bit of a departure from what ive written about on my blog so far but its something thats been on my mind that i really wanted to address.

Im fat, and the thing is, if i said that to anyone the likely hood is they will start trying to disprove this, “no your not!”, “dont be silly” or of course “but you have a pretty face!”. Because for years and years now we have been taught that fat is this bad word, its one of these words you shouldn’t say to others and such even though really, its really not.

Fat is a descriptive word, it describes a part of our bodies, regardless of you who are we all have some amount of fat on our bodies we need it. some of us just happen to have a bit more than others! Yet over the years its become an insult, often paired with other words like “fat and ugly” etc, that was what sparked this post actually, i saw a post on instagram that said “fat but not ugly” and it bugged me because why does that have to be said? someone who is fat is not automatically ugly.

Its frustrating, because this kind of thinking damages you, i know its meant that for me ive spent my whole life thinking that i can not be in any way pretty etc because i dont have the right amount of fat on my body. When you say it like that, it sounds stupid doesn’t it? but thats what it is, we are saying that having too much of this protective layer makes you look awful. Now im not talking about the health side of things with too much fat, thats not what im talking about here. We all know we shouldn’t have too much but thats not the point, we all have different amounts regardless and we dont really respect that.

We make people who are fat feel so ashamed to be so, we really hate on them and make it seem as if its the end of the world, when really its not! theres many reasons as to why people are fat, so many reasons and we just dont think about that. theres more too it than just eating too much! we need to stop being so judgemental, and let fat people live there lives.

We are all beautiful, in our own ways we all are and a number in clothing or on a set of scales does not define that. We are all just trying to figure out this cluster fuck we call life, we are all trying our best, why do we have to make it even more complicated than it already is? Years ago, fat was celebrated, fat was beautiful, fat was glorious, now a days, cant we just celebrate everyone? fat, skinny or in between?

So for me? im gonna stop saying that im “big” or “curvy”, and start saying what i mean, that i am fat and i am not ashamed of that, i am still a human being and i am still %100 valid, i can still have every emotion anyone else does, and im still deserving of everything else anyone else is, being fat doesn’t effect this.

Hey, im cath and im fat, and im not ashamed of that.

Mask Time subscription box – face masks galore!

Hey! So this is a rather exciting post as this post is going up on my birthday! i am most likely wearing one of these masks as you read this actually, as i  am a massive mask fan, i use one at least once a week generally twice a week. I am combo/oily skinned so i often go for clay/charcoal masks. So you can imagine how excited i was when i was very kindly sent the july 2018 box from mask time!

Now mask time is a face mask subscription box, regardless of the box you pick you get a selection of korean face masks (normally sheet masks) and a skincare item or two sometimes. You can go for the glow setter monthly box that costs £24.99 for 11 masks, or you can go for the glow starter box which is £9.95 for 4 face masks, which basically means you get one a week, perfect! Every box is sent out on the 2nd of every month and with free shipping, always nice!

On top of this, you can also buy previous months boxes if you so wish and you can also buy the masks you try individually so if you really fall in love with a mask you can re-purchase it!

So, i got the july 2018 mask time glow starter box.

A really cute touch in the boxes is that inside is a little card explaining the box, and on the card is a little korean sentence so you can try and learn a korean word, and you get to learn a new word every box which is really cute.

As you can see, the box comes really nicely packaged and wrapped and inside is the lovely sheet masks! and as you can see the masks are all targeted towards dealing with spots, oily skin and pores, so up my street.

The skincare “extra” this month is rather crazy, a full sized urban dollkiss carbonated bubble charcoal clay mask (RRP £14.99). Yep, the extra is worth more than the box itself! i have wanted to try one of these bubble masks for ages, and the day before this arrived i actually almost bought one so this was really good timing. The mask arrives with a spatula that you use to apply an even layer to your face, avoiding the eyes & lips and then you wait around 5 minutes for the mask to bubble and foam up. And it really does! it bubbles and foams on your face, and you can actually feel it fizzing on your face, you then wash it off like you would any other mask. Though i do suggest you crush the bubbles first because that was my favourite bit! i really love the fun factor of this mask, and it is very cleansing and left my skin feeling very clean, it might be too much in the winter but after the heat wave we had it was honestly just what my skin needed.

Now, onto the sheet masks.

First up we have the TOO COOL FOR SCHOOL egg cream mask pore tightening RRP £4.80 – I was equal parts scared and excited to see this! i know that using egg extract to help with pores is big in Korea but still i find it a little odd. Basically the premise of these sheet mask is its a very soft microfiber sheet infused with albumen, which is egg white extract and vinegar to target and help with oily skin and enlarged pores. I havent tried this one yet, its that feeling of i want too but, eggs? i will try this and report back at some point!

Next is the ROYAL SKIN real mud mask RRP £3.00 and is made from 100% boryeong mud, this basically sounds like one of those masks that does pretty much everything! moisturises, soothes, brightens and purifies as well as being anti-oxidant, anti-aging and anti- irritation so it really does seem like it can do a little bit of everything.

The ESFOLIO volcanic ash essence mask  RRP £3.00, Not only does this mask have cute packaging, this mask is packed of volcanic ash that helps drag out dirt and other gunk in your skin so the other good things in the mask like ginseng can do even more good. I tried this mask yesterday and it was lovely! the mask itself is very wet, it feels super cooling on the skin and my skin felt very hydrated the whole day.

PONYBROWN PLUS Skin hue clearing black mask RRP £3.50, now you know the cute packaging i mentioned? well this mask has it even more! i mean how cute! Now this mask is another one that can do basically everything,  though it is even tested by the korea semyang university so we know it works and is ok to use on sensitive skins.

So there you have it! all in all honestly i really like this subscription box, i love the fact that even in the cheaper option you have enough to do 1 a week and you can buy previous boxes if you missed one you really wanted to try. This is a lovely way to treat yourself once a month or as a gift to any other face mask fan you know.

The Pre-birthday Pamper Haul.

Hey! so, if you read my post on wednesday you would of seen that my birthday is coming up on the 14th. Now, im not the biggest fan of my birthday these days at all but im trying to make the most of it this year, be grateful of what you have right?

Anyway, because of this i already knew id be spending most of the day with my friends playing the new world of warcraft expansion, i had planned to spend some time in the morning with my family but thats changed when my mum has had to take an appointment that morning due to finding out that she has cataracts. So after having a think i thought you know what? why dont i have a really good pamper on my birthday morning? So this of course meant that i just had too buy some new goodies to do this with…obviously.

originally i had thought about ordering from amazon because i hadnt really bought pamper stuff from them before and thought it would be cool but i quickly found the hidden p&p thing they do! so instead i made 2 orders, one from boots and one from superdrug because they had different offers on and i couldnt get soap & glory from superdrug!

FYI i will ask you forgive the pictures, these were taken before 12pm (shocker i know) and because of this you got the sun high in the sky and my shadow getting in the way!

So, from boots the first thing i new i would pick up was the soap & glory sugar crush body scrub £8.00, now i really love a good scrub, i am the queen of exfoliation i love it, i bought a new pair of exfoliating gloves on the tesco order and then i had to pick a body scrub. I knew i wanted this one but i kept holding off because its more than i would normally spend on a body product, but honestly? why not! its my birthday, this is my favourite one ive used, the grains are sugar & macadamia grains but the best bit is that its not in oil so you dont get that annoying layer on your skin and its not made with salt so it doesnt sting my very sensitive legs! and it smells amazing.

I love a good hair mask, and the garnier ultimate blends range of face masks are a personal favourite, ive tried a few of them now and im slowly making my way through the range! i went for the ultimate blends maple & caster oil hair mask treatment £4.99 this time, it sounded good to me basically! and i know how good caster oil is at helping with hair growth and im always for that.

I then got 2 nail bits, to be honest i doubt i will actually “do” my nails on my birthday but i saw this as an excuse to get some proper nail oil that isnt from the pound shop and finally get something ive wanted for a while!
So nail oil wise i went for the barry m cuticle oil £3.99, not heard much about it or tried it yet so lets see! The other item is the sally hansen instant cuticle remover £6.95, now i have wanted to try this product for so long its not even funny! Ive seen anna (the anna edit on youtube) mention it a lot, and a few other people too but i always felt i couldnt justify it. turns out i just need to feel sorry for myself!

Right lets move onto superdrug! i didnt mean to buy 4 products from each place but i did!

Anyway first up i picked up a new mask to try, now ive had a few masks come my way over the past week or so (dont worry ill be showing you soon!) but i still of course picked this one up. Again, big face mask fan! So i picked up natures alchemist balancing clay face mask £6.99, honestly i thought this was more of a classic clay or mud mask than it actually is, but thats alright! i have been in the market for a quick mask to use for a while too.

Next up, i love a good detox shampoo to help clean any dye or product build up from my hair and scalp so i went for the toni & guy cleanse advanced detox shampoo £6.49, im pretty sure i used this before years ago and really liked it so im looking forward to using it again!

Ok so hands up, the next item isnt really just for “pampering” ive just developed a little hydrating facial mist problem ok? I spotted the natures alchemist hydrating facial mist £5.99 and had to give it a go, specially as it was on offer, and yes im fully expecting to be someone with 5 different facial sprays in the fridge next summer.

Still with me? good! now last but not least we have the o’keeffe’s lip repair cooling £4.25, now i wanted to get a new lip balm, and when i spotted this one was on offer i thought why not! i bought the o’keeffe’s working hands hand cream for my mum and it seems really good at helping her really dry caretaker hands, and i bought the foot cream that is also working pretty well on my feet from hell so why not! ive worn it a few times now and the cooling effect is nice, but i cant say much more than that yet!

alright, there you have it! well done if you made it this far, do you have pamper sessions on your birthday? let me know!

Loreal Paris Unlimited Mascara.

Hey! so yep, another product from that superdrug haul! when i was looking at new mascaras to try, i knew there was no way i wasnt trying out this mascara. This is the Loreal paris unlimited mascara £10.99, and basically the idea behind this is that you can do both eyes without risking hitting the bridge of your nose etc with your mascara wand because you can bend the handle of the wand, so you can get every single lash.

Now, this mascara promises that it will reach every single lash, a long-wearing deep black formula that lengthens, volumises, defines and separates. so, basically it promises to do everything you want in a mascara? im down!

first off, the tube is so strange! but i do like the fact that i can stand it up, less chance of it going rolling off my dressing table. The bendy wand, lets face it we know its a gimmick but it does help with not hitting the bridge of your nose (im a terror for doing that) and getting into the smaller areas of your eyes. the brush itself is basically christmas tree shaped  with plastic bristles.

The first couple of swipes with this looks pretty good! however, this gets clumpy and it gets clumpy *fast*. I find that with 2 coats and a lot of work i get this mascara to look good, but it takes work! a lot of combing through with a lash comb etc. the formula is very fibrous, i can see in the mascara itself little fibres and though i know a lot of people love mascaras like that i can never get them to work for me! it took me a while of combing to get the fibres to not just stick everywhere they shouldnt. A big downside i found with this mascara was that it weighs your lashes down quite a bit, and it made my curl drop almost straight away, my lashes are quite straight normally and they just dropped straight away. But, on the first coat it can look very good for about 5 minutes or so.

Now, even with all this my biggest issue with this mascara is the wear time. i put it on and half an hour later i touched my face (not my eyes) and there was flakes on my hand! already! and in the 7 hours of wear i put it through sure enough it kept flaking off all over the place, witch was so annoying and is the biggest thing that would put me off this mascara.

So honestly? i got hooked in by the idea of this mascara and sadly it just doesnt live up to what it promises! oh mascaras, the never ending search continues.

Emotionally Broken – Is there a time limit?

Me in a much happier place on my 18th birthday.

Hey! So on the 14th of august i turn 26, and well this is always difficult for me. Ever since i was signed off from work 6 years ago my birthdays have always been so tough to deal with because it meant i was another year older and things were not any better for me.

And now, im 6 years on and my life doesn’t look any better, it looks different but not in a good way.

And of course, im in my mid-twenties now so i have hit that age were everyone else around my age are doing the moving in/buying houses/marrying/babies thing and honestly i dont use facebook much anymore because i just cant bare to see it much anymore.

I always said to myself that i wanted to have children before i was 30, but that is sadly a distant dream now. By this point in my life i wanted to be settled in a job, to have a partner, not be living at home etc but i dont have any of that. But is this silly? putting a time limit on myself?

The rational part of me says that putting a time limit on this kind of thing is silly. That you cant always control these things in life and sometimes you just have to try your best and things will happen when they are meant too.

The anxiety ridden part of me (which lets face it, is %99 of me) believes that at this point, i likely will not get at least some of the things in life that were very important to me. I’ve already lost 6 years, so what else will this take? it does feel like it will take everything else that i dont even have yet, but i want.

I’ve thought about it, what if i hadn’t found myself in this situation? would i have a partner now? Most likely, theres been a number of people i would of likely hit it off with had i been able to take it beyond a dating site. Would i have moved out? hopefully, you never know with money but i think so! And of course, would i be thinking about children yet? Yes, i know i would be, because i think about them and wish i could at least have the option now let alone if i was actually in a good enough place to have them.

I know, I know that thinking this way is a bad idea, i know that i shouldn’t be so concerned with what i always wanted my life to be. Ive seen the facebook posts, the “at 29 JK Rowling was a single mum about to be homeless”, I know that things can change on a whim, that good things can happen to you at any time in life, but just near my birthday i just dont always feel that way.

If im being honest, thats part of the reason as to why i started blogging again because i wanted something that could grow with me hopefully, and something that i could watch grow. I needed something more, and though this does mean ive put more on my plate its nice because im never thinking what should i do, and that is always dangerous!

So i think the answer to if theres a time limit is, it feels like there is, but i know that however it may feel, i have as much time as i want to have the things in life i want.

I can have my happy ending, i just have to believe that.

B.hydrated Hyaluronic Acid Facial Spritz.

Hey! so in my superdrug haul the other week i picked up the B. Hydrated Hyaluronic Acid Facial Spritz £7.99, i have wanted a hydrating facial spritz for a while now and i seemed to pick the right moment because with our current heatwave they are amazing!

So, if you dont know what hyaluronic acid is in simple terms it can hold up to a thousand times its weight in water. It is something we have naturally in our skin, however of course its production does slow down and its always good to top up what we naturally make!

So first off, personally for me if you want a spritz to use throughout the day this isnt for you, but as someone who is oily /combo skinned i dont tend to need hydration during the day. However i have fallen completely in love with using this morning and night! in the “morning” (because lets face it, its rare i shower before 12) i use it on clean skin and then i put my serum on top straight away, and it really adds an extra layer of hydration. At night i use it after my acid toner of choice and then i again put my serum on top straight away and it just feels so nice to lock that in.

With the weather being like it has been, i really havent wanted much on my skin some days or nights! on the really horribly hot days (32c+) i havent been doing much at all, sticking to just spraying this and then putting on a gel based moisturiser and its really worked!

the only downside honestly is the size, ive gone through this pretty fast (ive got like a quarter left) and ive only had it for a few weeks, but its pretty cheap and superdrug always has sales so its not too bad to replace!

all in all ive really liked my first go at true hydrating facial spritzs and im looking forward to trying more!

My Nighttime Self-care Routine.

Hey! So, for the past week or so ive gotten into having a bit of a self-care routine every night at the minute. I started having issues with going to sleep, as someone who after many sleep issues in my teen years was able to sleep with no issue. But now, i have been getting anxious about the idea of going too sleep, as someone who responds well to the pampering side of self care and i also needed to start taking better care of more than just my face! i brought in a routine that has really been helping.

So generally i am a massive night owl, and myself and friends will generally stop playing video games and go to bed between 1-3am. So, at this point i turn off my pc move my water bottle & phone near my bed and then i get my room sorted, i draw my blinds and tidy up my bed if i dumped stuff on it! I then will get a youtube video going  on my phone, currently its generally a video from thrift thick  (please check her out i adore her!) then i get all the products i need out and put them onto the corner of my dressing table that i use as a night stand, before i get changed & go off to cleanse my face brush my teeth etc.

So i always double cleanse, ive always been a massive fan of doing this and i start with generally the super facialist vitamin C+ skin renew cleansing oil £10.99 this is hands down my favourite cleansing oil, ive used it for years and will continue to do so! it cleanses without stripping, it isnt super oily or heavy and it smells like oranges! for my second cleanse, i go with either the botanics all bright gentle cleansing cream £5.49 witch is very gentle and good for when my skin is dryer or the B. creamy foam cleanser £6.99 during the summer and when my skin is oiler. Both staples in my bathroom cupboard!

Once im back in my room i turn off my light and do everything else just by the light of my phone, i do this purely because i dont wanna have to get back up and turn my light off again! continuing with skincare, i use an acid toner, at the minute ive been enjoying the Freedom makeup london pro studio radiance tonic £ 6.00, this is really good, pretty gentle but still helps to remove dead skin cells using good old acid! (nice acid!), after this ive really gotten into using a hydrating facial spritz, my choice being the B. hydrated hyaluronic acid spritz £7.99, i am going through this so fast! i think this was hands down what kept my skin from being dry during the heat wave when i didnt want anything on my face!

Then i use a serum, ive really been enjoying the superdrug vitamin c invigorating skin booster £4.99 at the moment, of course i love the smell! but it also adds an extra layer of hydration and softness that i love. Finally for my face, i use a night cream and i wrote a whole review about these garnier natural 3 in 1 soothing rose botanical balm £12.99 witch you can read here, but the short version is hydrating, calming and lovely!

With all that on my face, i turn my attention to the rest of my body! now i have never liked putting body cream on, i hate the feeling so that doesnt happen. But i have been finally paying my feet some attention, i have very difficult problematic feet (this, is an understatement) we are talking cracks so deep they bleed bad, and having to be bandaged up earlier this year! my foot cream of choice right now is the scholl hard skin softening cream £5.99. i have to be honest however i dont know if its as heavy duty as my feet need! so if you have a suggestion please let me know!

now, i lay down and watch the youtube video for a bit, as it gets closer to the end i pop on a lip balm. ive really been liking the REN vita mineral lip balm £10.50 lately, i think this was a freebie in a box at some point? but however i got it, i really like how smooth it feels on the lips and its very hydrating, its still on in the morning! the very last thing i do beauty product wise is pop on some hand cream, ive been going for this NAOBAY orange juice hand cream £11.50 currently, another box item! because its on the lighter side so good for the summer, but its still very hydrating and plus side it smells amazing (can you tell i like orange smelling things?).

and with that, i close my phone and go to sleep and generally this little routine as really been helping me unwind and not be quite so anxious at night!

do you have a night time routine? any foot cream suggestions for me? let me know!

Maybelline Fit Me Matt & Poreless Foundation.

Hey! so in my haul last week i showed you that i picked up the maybelline matt & poreless foundation in 095 fair porcelain £6.99 because i had wanted to try it for a while and i saw that they had finally made a shade that looked like it may be pale enough. When i first got it i was very impressed, it was really pale! i tried it on one side of my face and was very pleased to see it was a brilliant colour match, it felt nice on my skin and the coverage was alright.

Since then, ive tried it out a few times now, trying it in a few different ways and i hate to say it, but im really not very impressed with it at all! first off yes, the colour match at first is spot on however once this dries down it oxidises so badly! i put this on, and an hour later i looked and i had this orange tide mark around my jaw when an hour before it was fine! considering how difficult it can be to find colour matches for me, i was sad it didnt really work after all.

So, everytime ive worn this as a wear test, ive worn the smashbox photo finish foundation primer £26.00 underneath as i have combo/oily skin and i generally always need a primer underneath my makeup. I have then very lightly set it with my normal powder (its discontinued, boo) because again, combo/oily and then ive applied contour/blusher/highlight to see how they weared on the foundation. I also tried this foundation over colour correcters from freedom & the barry m all night foundation primer stick £6.99 when i did a makeup look a few days ago.

When worn over the smashbox primer, the foundation goes on smoothly with brush or sponge and is extremely easy to blend, the coverage is light – medium really though it can be built up very easily but only max to a medium coverage. with the smashbox primer, it looks ok on my nose, but you can see my pores pretty obviously more so than with other foundations so poreless it is not! when i tried this over the barry m stick, oh boy! it made my skin look rather dry and my nose looked cakey and rather nasty, as i said i have combo/oily skin, my nose is my oiliest area yet you wouldnt think it with this!

the worst thing for me with this foundation is the wear, after 4 hours with the smashbox primer it wore off around my nose creases and under my glasses pads completely and was quickly coming off my nose all together. My nose chin and forehead were all shiny as well, but when i tried to blot i got nothing! 6 hours in and the foundation had sadly left my nose, cakey foundation around my nose pads the only reminder it was even there! my highlight, blush and contour were all there, it did fine on my cheeks, the most “normal” part of my skin but thats the only place it had! it caked around my upper lip, and was gone under my eyes.

I took it off after 7 hours, the only thing i was doing that day was sitting at my desk playing dnd! yet my foundation acted as if i was doing a work out or something.

i really wanted to like this foundation, but sadly it just didnt work for me and the shade though it was good they brought out a paler shade it ended up turning into ivory in the end anyway!

have you tried something that disappointed you lately?
